What is a support group?
There is an idea that someone who moved to another country, especially a prosperous one, has won the lottery jackpot. Even emigrants themselves believe that this is so or think that they should think so. This creates a situation when you want to complain, but you can’t. You want to ask for support, but you can’t. As if you don’t deserve sympathy, a kind word. After all, everything is fine with you anyway.
It's like you exist on two levels at once. On the surface, where you live in a prosperous society and go to the fair every week to buy fresh flowers. And deep inside, where there is frustration and unexpressed feelings.
The special meaning of expressive therapy through creativity lies in the paradox when the creative act (drawing, movement, writing poetic messages, playing music) helps better than verbally speaking about problems. Creativity refracts a certain and logical difficulty so that we see more shades and meanings. And, accordingly, solutions.
And also, a group is a meeting with other people. The opportunity to connect on a deeper level than just small talk. Participants with different experiences can enrich each other.
The goal of a support group is not so much to find solutions to problems, but rather to create a favorable space where you can simply be, place your experiences, express feelings that do not have enough space in your daily life. Simple moments create fertile ground for qualitative changes both inside and outside.
The meetings take place once a month on Fridays at 10:00 Amsterdam time. To find out the date of the next meeting and to sign up, write to me in messenger.
